Hiking shoes - we have fallen in love with the Altra Lone Peak 5 shoes. You don't need heavy hiking boots. Your hiking shoes are truly the most important item you can take. They need to be comfortable and you need to have broken them in properly to avoid blisters.
Backpack - we recommend a pack that is super light. We love the Gossamer Gear G4-20. It is super light weight and can expand easily.
Passport - make sure it doesn't expire for at least 6 months after your return date from Spain
Toiletries - most hotels will provide soap and shampoo. This can be a heavy item so pack carefully - sunscreen, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, eye mask, ear plugs or whatever helps you to sleep at night
Hiking pants or shorts - check the weather before you depart to see the projection
Short sleeve hiking shirt - something that breathes and wicks away perspiration is ideal
Long sleeve hiking shirt
Band aids, medical tape, Compeed.
EU power plugs - we have found all we need is just a USB power plug that works with the EU outlets
Bandana (optional)
Socks/underwear - recommend 4 pairs each
Mesh bag for wet laundry - you can use the sinks and soap to wash clothes as needed
Rain poncho - we use the super thin ones that cover the head, body and backpack
Backpack cover - always good to have that as well. No one likes wet clothes
Hat
Money - recommend bringing about 100 Euros for when you first arrive
Assorted sizes of zip lock baggies - they always come in handy
Your travel clothes, which will also be your evening clothes. For your travel/evening shoes, bring something that is comfortable - remember, you will be walking for 10-15 miles each day.
Depending on the weather, you may need additional layers. We recommend multiple light weight layers that can be added/removed as the temperature changes
If you want to bring a suitcase we will move for you
Everything in the above list of course!
Perhaps a second set of evening clothes
Remember that you don't need to pack heavy. Trust us when we say you won't need that much. The Camino is not about taking a lot of clothes and things. It is about the transformational experience.
For your day pack, you might want to bring sunscreen, a change of socks, water bottle, band aids, aspirin.
